DISTRICT DESCRIPTION:

The Town of Drakes Branch recently celebrated its 100th year of incorporation, although the town is actually older. At one time Drakes Branch had some of the largest dark tobacco markets in Southside Virginia. The Wilson-Kautz Civil War Trail goes through Drakes Branch (Drakes to Randolph) along the former Southern Railroad track. Eureka Elementary School, the county's largest elementary school, is also located in this district.  Drakes Branch has recently been selected as the site of a new prison that will be a private-state partnership.

PERSONAL:

Mr. Hamlett is married to the former Julia Ann Golubic of Crewe, Virginia. They have two grown children and three granddaughters.

Bluefield College - BS Degree in Business, Organizational Management and Development

• Retired from Babcock & Wilcox Company
• Licensed Insurance Agent, Commonwealth of Virginia

MILITARY SERVICE:

• Recalled to active duty as a Retired Reservist for Operation Enduring Freedom with service in Southwest Asia
• 26 years with the Virginia Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve
• 4 years active duty U.S. Army

• Charlotte County Board of Supervisors, 2004 - present (Served as Chairman for two years and Vice-Chairman for three years)
